There was a fantastic reason that The Canberra Hospital required a major expansion. They needed to make room for the development of their new Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.
This would be achieved by extending and refurbishing the former maternity building.
The client required a large amount of loose furniture to closely align with their design objectives, hence a fully customised solution was required.
Following extensive discussions and research with the client, Bowen Interiors provided brightly coloured furniture for children’s play areas creating an inspiring and stimulating play environment.
There needed to be a fresh and inviting environment for families that would be spending time within the hospital, so it was extremely important that we worked very closely with the client to make sure that the design would be perfect.
In addition to the areas designed for the patients, training rooms conducive to world class research were created with fixed and folding mobile training tables and training room seating. That way the hospital could be assured that their staff would be working and learning within functional and inspiring facilities.
On that note, to help combat the sometimes-strained atmosphere so typical of the hospital environment, Bowen Interiors designed and customised lounges and jigsaw shaped ottomans, all designed to engender relaxation and quiet time as well as meet stringent medical specifications.
This included a large outdoor sitting are for new parents and their families and friends was created to create a lively and invigorating breakout area. It was designed to be the perfect space for families and patients to relax and enjoy one another’s company in a welcoming and relaxed setting.
The extensive refurbishment to the hospital is a welcome upgrade, boasting new birthing rooms, a therapeutic garden and playground for younger patients.
The new light airy spaces, bright colours and inspiring but fully functional furnishings all contribute to invigorating atmosphere – one of fun and interest for children and private relaxation for new mothers.
The hospital has combined the right mix for all family members, old, and new!
